The college is keen to provide all the necessary facilities to students such as health insurance, the cost of which is included in the college fees.

The insurance coverage is designed to provide adequate compensation. College has also instituted various awards for encouragement of meritorious students.

Students are encouraged to take part in NSS activities.

The NSS organises various programs like tree plantation, blood donation etc. The NSS also inculcates a sense of responsibility through various programs related to health, cleanliness, literacy, prevention of addiction etc. teacher-Guardian scheme is introduced with a view to impart personal touch to the process of learning at the college. Dedicated and experienced teachers look after a group of 20 students.

Activities under Community Services

The Teacher-Guardian, a counselor of these 20 students, helps them to overcome all types of difficulties by offering a family like environment. Students from outside cities need a helping hand to rectify the areas of study, where the improvement is required. All students are encouraged to improve upon by hard work and corrective guidance. Parents are assured that their wards are under absolute regular supervision and continuous guidance. Teacher-Guardian communicates performance of the student to the parents. All parents are requested to visit the college during the first week of November to January.

Ongoing Activities

1. Drinking Water Quality Monitoring

The project is being carried out by the Department of Civil Engineering in the nearby village called Nildoh. The village depends on water from the open wells for their requirements. There are several cases of illness in the community, which prompted the local body to seek help. The water from the open wells is being tested in YCCE laboratory for its contamination. Since the quality and quantity of the contamination varies from season to season, these tests will be spanned over the year.   The community will be advised to take precautions and appropriate purification processes will be recommended following the analysis of data generated through testing.

2. IT for rural area

The digital divide between the urban and rural area needs to be dispelled for the effective implementation of the various governmental initiatives. The schoolboys from the rural area have been deprived from the newer powerful technology the digital age has promised.  Under the department of Computer Technology and Information Technology a project was started for educating the deprived children. The trustees of Nehru Bal Sadan, MIDC, Hingna, Nagpur, graciously allowed the college to use their premises to house the computers and conduct the classes. A set of fifteen computers of latest configuration has been installed at this extension centre. The first two batches of primary and secondary school students have undergone the first module of the coaching. The efforts are underway to use this facility for educating the children of the nearby villages. The institute plans to provide transport facility to these students to facilitate commuting between their villages and the Extension Centre. The results of the first two batches are very encouraging. The institute therefore has planned to acquire a mobile training laboratory.   The teachers of the schools from rural areas are also proposed to be trained at YCCE under this program.

3. Hand Pump Repairing Project

Remote rural areas invariably depend upon the bore wells for their water requirement. The bore well pump frequently breakdown and require repairs.  These are usually difficult to carry out due to remote locations and the community around the unserviceable bore well thus suffers for no fault.  The youth from these remote areas have been identified and they were given training for three days at YCVCE.  They also actively participated in the actual repair work of bore wells carried by Panchayat Samiti.  This group will be trained further and will be provided with complete repair kit.  Governmental agencies are being pursued to train these persons further and also allot them work of repairs.  The purpose is two folds.  Firstly, the bore wells is remote areas can be serviced faster and secondly the unemployed persons from rural areas will get the economic benefits.  The project is being implemented with the assistance from Zilla Parishad, Nagpur and Jalswaraj Yojana of Govt. of Maharashtra.

Programs implemented by students

1. Clean Environment Drive

The community is made aware of the scarcity of water and the students of YCCE implement protection of water bodies from contaminations regularly. Each year, the Ganesh festival is celebrated in the city of Nagpur with pomp and devotion. At the end of festival, idols of Lord Ganesh are immersed in the water bodies in the city. Unfortunately, the material like flowers, fruits, and offerings to Lord etc. is also dropped in the lakes. A team of the students numbering around 150 pickets the lake of Telankhedi to request people not to immerse the offerings etc along with the idols. The program is highly successful. The students collect more than 4 tones of offerings each year. The program is implemented with the assistance of Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

2. Traffic Routine

The immersion of the Lord Ganesh at Telankhedi on Ganesh Chaturdashi draws a huge crowd. The traffic police are extended help in the form of volunteers from the students of YCCE on this day for around 10 hours. A team of 20 students helps the traffic police in regulating the traffic and making the announcements for safety of the crowd.

3. Blood Donation

The scarcity of blood in the hospitals poses a great problem. The students of YCCE have always responded to calls of the community and have donated the blood. During January 2005 to Jan 2006, the students have donated 948 units of blood. They also donate the blood in response to special requests. One such request was made during the floods in Mumbai. The platelets from the donated blood were air lifted to Mumbai to combat the epidemic. YCCE students were the single largest group from rest of Maharashtra to respond to this emergency.

4. Tree plantation

The students of YCCE have planted trees in each monsoon in and around the campus. The planted trees are cared for by the Garden Department of YCCE.
